Our triple success at the Taste of Excellence Awards

The White Hart Hotel is recognised for culinary and hospitality excellence

Here at the White Hart Hotel, we’re proud to announce that we were recognised in three categories at the Taste of Excellence Awards on 1st November 2018.

These include:

  • Gold citation – The Restaurant of the Year
  • Finalists – The Hotel of the Year
  • Gold citation – The Wedding Venue of the Year

Associated with Lincolnshire Life magazine, the awards recognise some of the finest venues and restaurants around the county.

Every category is voted for by the people of Lincolnshire, which makes our trio of nominations extra special.

So how did we do it?

Our winter food inspiration

To be recognised at such a prestigious food and drink awards largely boils down to our new winter menu.

Our head chef, Myles Mumby says: “Our winter menu demonstrates to you our creativity and a real taste of Britain, using locally sourced produce from within our wonderful country.

As a true ‘Yellowbelly’, my passion for everything Lincolnshire is endless. I have been fortunate enough to meet many local suppliers, build solid relationships and develop a strong sense of using seasonal ingredients to ensure complimentary flavour combinations.

In particular, our Redhill Farm pork done three ways and the Root vegetable, apricot and Skegness Blue cheese bake with chestnut crumble dishes really encompassed this vision and played an integral part in us being awarded a gold citation in the Restaurant of the Year category.”

On reflection, we think our passion to use local produce in our a la carte menu, as well as offering a great deal with our 5 of Harts deal on our lunch menu, has really helped put a smile on the faces of our guests.

And not to mention our infamous Steak Night every Thursday, where guests can enjoy an 8oz ribeye steak, 8oz lamb rump or roasted half-chicken in honey and mustard, two sides and a drink for just £15 per person.

Winter food oozing quality and value is clearly a winning formula if the Taste of Excellence Awards and our AA Rosette for Culinary Excellence earlier this year are anything to go by.

The importance of a good venue

To match our head chef’s fine attention to detail, our hospitality team have also been working extremely hard over the last 12 months to create a venue which excels in hosting weekend getaways and plush wedding ceremonies.

This all stems from the way we’ve designed our executive rooms right through to the way we’ve arranged our wedding spaces.

Lincolnshire Life magazine and the people who voted have clearly identified a distinct difference in the way that we treat our guests and our passion to provide an unparalleled service.

Not Long Until The Lincoln Christmas Market

We love the Lincoln Christmas Market, and not just because it’s the most wonderful time of the year!

Our contemporary Cathedral city boasts more than 2,000 years of history and is the perfect place to visit over the festive period. The medieval square provides the perfect back drop for the Lincoln Christmas Market but more importantly, it’s right outside our doors.

From its small beginnings in 1982, the Christmas Market now includes more than 200 stalls and is expected to attract an incredible 250,000 visitors to Lincoln.

The market began when Lincoln twinned with Germany town Neustadt and the German link is still strong, with stall holders from our twinned-town bringing German crafts, food and drink to the market. The twinning relationship with Lincoln was formed in 1969 and is one of the oldest, strongest and most successful in the country. Although the first German Christmas Market didn’t take place until 1982, it was still one of the first in the country and today it’s one of the largest.

It’s the perfect place for anyone on the hunt for beautiful, hand-crafted presents that enable you to gift something truly unique. Visitors to the market will find a treasure trove of goodies and should expect to see jewellery, hand-poured candles, wooden toys, hand-painted glass, ceramics, photographs and locally-created art and fabulous fresh produce.

‘We really enjoy the Christmas Market coming to Lincoln each year,’ says White Hart Hotel general manager Ian Robinson. ‘It’s a massive event that we’re all very proud of in the city and is the perfect way to kick-start Christmas.’

The Lincoln Christmas Market starts on Thursday 7 December and runs until Sunday 10 December. Click here for more information.

If you are heading to the Christmas Market, don’t forget to pop in for one of our famous hot chocolates to enjoy as you rest your feet and warm your cockles.

Six Reasons To Book Your Hotel Room Direct

Here at the Whitehart Hotel, we care deeply about our guests and are always ready with the best offers and extras to ensure your stay is a luxurious, care-free experience.

That’s why we wanted to talk about direct bookings. We understand that whatever the reasons for your stay, you’re always going to want to secure the best deal and that’s why third-party sites can be appealing but there are many reasons why you should always book direct.

To help you understand the benefits of booking direct, we have compiled a list of the top-six reasons why booking a hotel room directly with a hotel is always the best option.

Accountability

By booking direct you should guarantee an easy and secure booking because there are only two parties involved. When a third party (such as a booking site) gets involved, things can get messy and this is most commonly in the form of reservations not being processed. This will need to be rectified by the hotel on your arrival and can leave you with the wrong room or without any room at all.

More Rooms Available

A little tip when it comes to booking through a third party is that ‘sold out’ does not always mean a hotel is full. Often hotels will keep their best rooms free for their guests who book direct. Hotels also sometimes stop selling rooms to third-party sites on particular dates. So, don’t always believe a third-party and check the Whitehart Hotel’s website or call us on 01522 526 222 to book.

More Flexibility

When booking direct, hotels are often more willing to help should you need to change dates or cancel. This is because the hotel is not bound by third-party agreements, while reserving a room through a third-party usually creates and locks in a contract for the stay which can restrict your and the hotel staff should you need to amend anything.

Best Rate Guaranteed

We often hear the biggest draw for booking through third-party sites is the price, as they’re usually represented as the cheapest available rates. Alas, this isn’t the case. Hotels will always price match any offer you’ve received elsewhere. Not only that, booking direct will also ensure we can offer you the best deal, with the best add-ons and extras at the lowest possible prices.

Best Packages Through Direct Booking

That brings us neatly onto our next point, which is that the best packages are only available when you book direct. If you’re looking for dinner, bed & breakfast or some other extras to make your stay at the Whitehart Hotel extra special, then booking direct is the only option. Not only we will know your exact requirements but we’ll also be able to provide the best possible price.

Fridays and Sundays

As well as the individual offers and rates we can provide when you book direct, we also run exclusive Friday and Sunday deals that are only available when you book a room directly through us. On a Friday, with the correct voucher code, you can book a bed-and-breakfast room for two with a £25 dinner allowance and two pre-dinner cocktails all for just £165. Then, on Sundays, you can book a bed-and-breakfast room for two with a £20 dinner allowance for just £120. Call us now on 01522 526 222 to book now.

There’s also the mouth-wateringly good Grilled Tofu (suitable for vegans) served with smoked aubergine caviar, cherry tomatoes and asparagus. Finish off with a sweet treat… who could resist a classic carrot cake? Enjoy it with apple blossom, chocolate soil, orange sorbet and cream cheese. If strawberries are your favourite fruit, you’ll adore this taste explosion: poached strawberries, strawberry gel, prosecco jelly, black pepper tuille and sweetened cream… truly heaven on a plate.

Our lunch menu provides a fantastic selection of dishes plus super savings thanks to our new 5 of Harts offer. Look out for the dishes with the 5 of Harts symbol to get two courses for £11.95 or three for £14.45. To start, there’s soup of the day, local smoked salmon, pea risotto and more. The main event includes the supreme Fosters of Lincolnshire sausages (accompanied by wholegrain mustard mash, of course) and classic battered haddock; served with mushy peas, hand cut chips and tartar sauce. Round it all off with a summery Eton Mess or raspberry crème brûlée.

We have a special menu for the kids (specifically, under 11s). Treat them to a main and pudding for just £6.50. Dishes include penne pasta, chicken goujons & chips and sausage & mash. For dessert, they can choose from strawberry Eton Mess or a selection of scrummy ice creams.

Battle of Lincoln 800th Anniversary: What’s On?

The 20th May is the 800th anniversary of the Battle of Lincoln. Deemed by historians to be one of the most significant conflicts in Medieval England, there is so much going on across the city to mark the occasion.

A little bit of history

Let’s start by looking at just why the Battle of Lincoln was so important. Back in 1215, the Magna Carta was sealed, yet just 10 weeks later, King John began to rebel against the promises made. This resulted in a division between English royalists and the rebels who called for Prince Louis (the son of the French king) to take to the throne. The divide led the country into civil war and when King John died in 1216, his nine-year-old son Henry III took on the reign of a divided and hostile country.

It was in 1217 that these hostilities came to a head. Aside from Lincoln Castle, the whole city of Lincoln had been invaded by the French. William Marshal (Henry III’s protector) led a troop of royalist knights to the castle, where they resisted the invasion. The royalists were victorious, leading Prince Louis to return to France – saving Lincoln, and England, from French rule.

What’s On?

To commemorate, there’s a whole host of events and activities taking place all over the city…
