Merry Christmas

All the team at the White Hart Hotel would like to wish our customers a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

It’s been an exciting year for us here at the White Hart, and we’re proud to have served you all throughout.

This year saw us refurbish and reopen the Grille restaurant, which looks fantastic with our new décor and has been praised for our sumptuous menu bursting with local ingredients and products. So much so in fact, that we were delighted to win Restaurant of the Year at the Select Lincolnshire Food, Drink and Hospitality Awards.

It’s not the only prestigious accolade we received either after scooping the Best Venue category as well. At the time, our general manager Ian Robinson said, ‘Winning Restaurant of the Year and Venue of the Year is a tremendous honour. We’re very proud that we’ve won awards two years in a row after winning Hotel of the Year in 2016 and we’d like to thank all the staff and team who have helped us achieve our goal of becoming Lincoln’s leading venue. We work hard to ensure all our customers experience unparalleled service and enjoy excellent food, so it’s great to get recognition for that with these prestigious awards.’

We’ve been lucky enough to host a variety of weddings through 2017 as well. It’s always a huge pleasure for us to see so many bright futures begin at our historic hotel.

It’s not over yet though, we have even more planned for next year as we continue to strive for excellence with our menus, both for food and cocktails, service, and more.

So, we’ll look forward to seeing you in 2018 but before that, have a fantastic Christmas full of fun and happiness, followed by a wonderful New Year.

From all the team at the White Hart Hotel.

Not Long Until The Lincoln Christmas Market

We love the Lincoln Christmas Market, and not just because it’s the most wonderful time of the year!

Our contemporary Cathedral city boasts more than 2,000 years of history and is the perfect place to visit over the festive period. The medieval square provides the perfect back drop for the Lincoln Christmas Market but more importantly, it’s right outside our doors.

From its small beginnings in 1982, the Christmas Market now includes more than 200 stalls and is expected to attract an incredible 250,000 visitors to Lincoln.

The market began when Lincoln twinned with Germany town Neustadt and the German link is still strong, with stall holders from our twinned-town bringing German crafts, food and drink to the market. The twinning relationship with Lincoln was formed in 1969 and is one of the oldest, strongest and most successful in the country. Although the first German Christmas Market didn’t take place until 1982, it was still one of the first in the country and today it’s one of the largest.

It’s the perfect place for anyone on the hunt for beautiful, hand-crafted presents that enable you to gift something truly unique. Visitors to the market will find a treasure trove of goodies and should expect to see jewellery, hand-poured candles, wooden toys, hand-painted glass, ceramics, photographs and locally-created art and fabulous fresh produce.

‘We really enjoy the Christmas Market coming to Lincoln each year,’ says White Hart Hotel general manager Ian Robinson. ‘It’s a massive event that we’re all very proud of in the city and is the perfect way to kick-start Christmas.’

The Lincoln Christmas Market starts on Thursday 7 December and runs until Sunday 10 December. Click here for more information.

If you are heading to the Christmas Market, don’t forget to pop in for one of our famous hot chocolates to enjoy as you rest your feet and warm your cockles.

Lincoln’s Hidden Gems – By Ian Robinson, GM at The White Hart Hotel

A historic city steeped in culture and charm, Lincoln is the perfect spot for sightseeing. Home to Lincoln Cathedral, this beautiful region also boasts an array of hidden gems from stunning walks and theatre shows to museums and boutiques. Here’s a local perspective on the best bits of Lincoln from Ian Robinson, the General Manager at the White Hart Hotel:

(1)  How long have you worked at The White Hart Hotel?

Five and a half years and the time has flown by! I love working with my colleagues here – you won’t find a friendlier team of people anywhere else.

(2)  What do you enjoy the most about your job and why?

The diversity of the job and meeting people is one of my favourite aspects. I also like hosting weddings at the hotel – there’s no greater satisfaction than seeing the smile on a bride’s face and knowing that I’ve contributed to her perfect day.

(3)  In your opinion, what makes The White Hart Hotel one of the top hotels in Lincoln?

The top-class service, the superb location in the heart of Lincoln (the historic Cathedral Quarter), a superb cocktail bar, and award-winning dining at Grille – Restaurant & Bar.

(4)  What do you like most about the city of Lincoln?

The city is big enough to matter, but still small enough to care. Community spirit still exists here!

(5)  What would you say are the ‘must-see’ spots of Lincoln?

Lincoln castle, where visitors can see the Magna Carta and go on a medieval walk around the historic walls, is a must-see as well as the stunning cathedral that attracts tourists from all over the world. The cathedral entrance is right at the top of Steep Hill – it’s fun to walk up the cobbled street simple because it’s so steep and there are lots of boutiques and speciality shops to visit along the way. The Guild Hall is a great place to visit too because it gives an insight into Lincoln’s fascinating history.

(6)  In terms of ‘hidden gems’; can you share any with us?

  • Not many people know that there’s a thriving night-time economy here in Lincoln. There’s always somewhere fun to go every evening and no two nights are ever the same.
  • The Bailgate shopping area has a plethora of independent traders, speciality food stores and clothing boutiques. It’s based in the Cathedral Quarter, one of the most historic parts of the city, so it has a quaint charm to it that shouldn’t be missed. Plus, it’s just a short stroll away from the hotel entrance.
  • You can use a downloadable app called Roman walk boundaries to help you find your way around the city’s historic perimeter. It makes for a fantastic walk and there are plenty of opportunities to take some eye catching photos.
  • For the most fantastic view of the Cathedral, our rooftop terrace is the perfect spot.

(7)  Finally, if you only had one day to spend in Lincoln, where would you go and what would you do?

  • Brunch at one of the little cafes on Steep Hill because there are so many interesting places to eat.
  • A ride on a tour bus because there’s always something new to be seen as well as the main stops at the Cathedral, Lincoln Castle and Cultural Quarter (ghost walks in the evening can also be great fun where you learn about the legends of the spirits that haunt Lincoln’s local attractions!).
  • Champagne Afternoon Tea at Room Bar, which comes with a chilled glass of champagne, fresh scone, clotted cream and homemade cakes, simply because it’s so lavish and delicious.
  • Drill Hall Theatre to see a performance – there are comedy, music, dance, film and children’s events all year round.
  • Room Bar for cocktails, a night cap to end the perfect day.

  1. It’s a haven for history lovers

The White Hart Hotel is situated at the centre of Lincoln’s historic quarter; a fantastic location that’s close to the city’s famous hot spots and points of interest. Just moments away from the hotel, Lincoln Castle is home to one of only four surviving copies of the Magna Carta, making it a must-see attraction for history buffs. Nearby, Lincoln’s gothic Cathedral towers above all else, once the tallest building in the world for 300 years.

The hotel itself claims special historical significance – the Yarborough meeting room, also known as the ‘Tank Room’ was where Sir William Tritton and Major W G Wilson first conceived the idea of military tanks. Aside from history, Lincolnshire is also synonymous with legends of ghosts and spirits that haunt the local attractions.
